Carnegie Children’s Choir
Carnegie Children’s Choir was founded in Fall 2008 to give young students in the Greenbrier Valley an opportunity to cultivate and develop their level of musicianship, through the art of singing. Susan Adkins, Executive Director of Carnegie Hall, and music educator for over 29 years in the Greenbrier County Public Schools, directs the choir, assisted by Leah Trent, Education Director of Carnegie Hall. The program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
Admission to the CCC is based upon auditions. Children, ages 9-14, will be selected to be members of the choir.
Rehearsals for CCC will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 4-5:30pm, at Carnegie Hall, which is located at 105 Church Street in Lewisburg.
The CCC hopes that each singer will also be a member of their school and/or church choir, if one is available. This is mutually beneficial, since the musical skills and proper attitudes learned in each choir can be shared with others.
For further information, please contact Carnegie Hall at 304-645-7917.
Auditions will be held in the Auditorium of Carnegie Hall on the second Tuesday in September and the second Tuesday in January, from 4-5:30pm in the Hamilton Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. All singers, ages 9-14 are encouraged to audition. Singers will be asked to sing one verse of “America the Beautiful”. Any child who was previously a member of the CCC does not need to re-audition.
Tuition is $30 per year. Uniforms (approximate cost is $100 per student) will be purchased by the parents. Scholarships are available for both tuition and uniform costs.
