School Partnership Programs

Creative Classrooms - Creative Classrooms are curriculum connected workshops presented  in area schools. These two-hour arts integration workshops are taught by teaching artists from Carnegie Hall. Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate their understanding of a topic through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both disciplines.

Link Up - Carnegie Hall, Inc. works in partnership with The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall in New York to present Link Up, a comprehensive program for 4th graders that includes a recorder-based music curriculum, teacher workshops, and a culminating live interactive orchestra concert(s) at Carnegie Hall.  Link Up teaches basic musical concepts and musical literacy while exposing students to high quality classical music performances. Every 4th grade student in Greenbrier County Schools is provided with a soprano recorder and a student workbook. After learning the repertoire, these students attend a live orchestra concert at Carnegie Hall, where they get to perform with the orchestra.

Spotlight on Schools - Spotlight on Schools is a series of performances for school children, offered in partnership with Greenbrier County Schools. The Education Director works in partnership with the Elementary Education Director of the Greenbrier County schools, and the Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall to present a varied and well-rounded artistic program for the students. Performances, which include music, dance, and theater, are held at Carnegie Hall and in the school auditoriums.

Creative Youth - Carnegie Hall presents an art exhibit each spring, featuring the art of students in grades 4-12.  Children from public, private and home schools submit their work for this juried art exhibit. A reception honoring the award winners is held on the opening night of the exhibit.

Teach SmART - Professional Development in the Arts for Educators - Carnegie Hall and Greenbrier County Schools are members of The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Partners in Education Program.  Through this partnership we plan and present a series of participatory workshops for teachers designed to develop their knowledge and empower them to teach in, through, and about the arts.  The Education Director works collaboratively with Greenbrier County Schools staff to select and secure presenters and artists.
