Pianafiddle

Improvising on the spot, PIANAFIDDLE draws from genres as diverse as bluegrass, classical, ragtime, klezmer, and jazz. Beginning with a familiar tune, concert violinist and fiddle player Adam DeGraff and ragtime pianist Lynn Wright blur stylistic lines and meld genres, continually engrossing their audiences with traditionally-grounded, yet accessible and spontaneous new musical creations. Lynn Wright has recently retired and will be replaced in this concert with pianist, Randy Morris.

Blue Highway

Blue Highway is indisputably one of the most esteemed and influential groups in contemporary bluegrass. With eight highly-acclaimed albums to its credit, Blue Highway has garnered two Grammy nominations, a Dove Award, topped the Bluegrass Unlimited radio charts, and won numerous International Bluegrass Music Association awards. Refusing to coast on past glories, Blue Highway continues to push its music to new levels of accomplishment. Artfully balanced between tradition and innovation, it remains in the forefront of contemporary bluegrass music.

Cowboy Junkies

The Toronto quartet have made a career out of its soft-focus sound. Their mix of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz have earned them both critical attention and a cult following. With ambient walls of guitar provided by Michael Timmins, the eerie harmonica accompaniment of Jeff Bird, longtime bassist Alan Anton, and Margo Timmins' hushed, contemplative voice, the group's alt-folk draws inspiration from Hank Williams, Lightnin' Hopkins and The Velvet Underground.

West Virginia Dance Company

The only professional touring dance company in the history of the state, the West Virginia Dance Company's performances are a blend of entertaining and thought-provoking modern compositions that invoke enthusiasm in audiences in all ages. Its members are highly trained professionals from all over the country. The company has been ambassadors of dance in fourteen states as well as in Brazil.

The Peasall Sisters Holiday Show

The Peasall Sisters earned GRAMMY and CMA Awards for their part in the blockbuster O Brother, Where Art Thou? movie and soundtrack, and have performed at such esteemed venues as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, and the Grand Ole Opry. Join us for an evening filled with traditional, as well as seasonal and holiday inspired melodies.

The Holmes Brothers

Since 1979 the Holmes brothers have been bringing their brand of gospel inflected spiritually moving and funky music to audiences around the world. Their spine-tingling harmonies, boundless energy and telepathic musicianship mix Saturday night's roadhouse rock with the gospel fervor and harmonies of Sunday's church service. The New York Times calls their sound “deeply soulful, uplifting and timeless”. The Chicago Tribune refers to them as “the undisputed masters of blues-based American roots music.” The London Times says “their rhythms take over your body while their voices go straight for your heart.” Their soul warming sounds are just what is needed to chase the winter blues away!



This tour engagement of The Holmes Brothers is funded through the American Masterpieces programs of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius, a major initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy.
Garth Newel Piano Quartet

The Garth Newel Piano Quartet is known for high-energy performances, virtuosity, and offering fresh insight into both standard and new repertoire. Their concerts are informal, conversational, and interactive. As artists-in-residence at Garth Newel Music Center, one of the premiere and most active chamber music organizations in the United States, they perform over 50 concerts each year. They possess the rare ability to captivate an audience with the spirit and passion they bring to every concert.

Habib Koite and Bamada

Malian guitarist Habib Koité is one of Africa’s most popular and recognized musicians. Few African artists have received the sales and media exposure of Habib Koité. Called "Mali's biggest pop star" by Rolling Stone, Habib has received raves from widely-read publications such as People, Entertainment Weekly and the New York Times. Well respected among musicians, he has been compared Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn.



This tour engagement of Habib Koite is funded through Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s Mid Atlantic Tours program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program.
Paquito D' Rivera
April 10, 2010 | 7:30pm


Paquito D'Rivera defies categorization. The Cuban born and New York-based saxophonist and clarinet player is celebrated both for his artistry in Latin jazz and his achievements as a classical composer. His numerous recordings include more than 30 solo albums, nine of which have earned him GRAMMY Awards. D’Rivera is a recipient of the National Medal for the Arts, and has been honored as a Living Jazz Legend by the Kennedy Center. Hailed by The National Endowment for the Arts as the “consummate multinational ambassador, creating and promoting a cross-culture of music that moves effortlessly among jazz, Latin, and Mozart,” this is a performance you won’t want to miss. Performance held in conjunction with the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival

Iris DeMent

Iris DeMent has been a leading voice in folk for the past decade. Her distinctive vocal style draws from influences from Loretta Lynn to Joni Mitchell, and her songs resonate with insightful, well-crafted lyrics about religion, love and social issues. As a teenager DeMent was exposed to the music that would change her life--folk and country. Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell and Loretta Lynn. DeMent has collaborated with John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard and more.
