Carolina Chocolate Drops

Section B:

Think of traditional African-American music and the genres that come to mind are gospel, blues and jazz; few people think of old-time string band music. But the antebellum combination of banjo and fiddle is a time-honored tradition in most black rural communities in the south. The Carolina Chocolate Drops, a band of three young and talented musicians, are part of the revival of this venerable musical tradition. Presented in conjunction with the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival.

Reggie Wayne Morris Blues Band

Reggie Wayne Morris hails from Baltimore and he plays the blues with an infectious passion. Having spent a great deal of his childhood on his grandparents' farm outside of Charlottesville, VA, he was reared on gospel at their local Southern Baptist Church. The blues was also a part of family life, fueled by guitar, piano and harmonica playing family members. Over the years Reggie has developed an upbeat, rockin' style that pays homage to those who bore witness and spread the blues news from generation to generation.

Corey Harris and the 5 X 5 Band

Born in Denver, CO, Corey Harris first picked up the guitar at age 12, and by high school, he was playing in rock bands. "Harris turns his attention to reggae — real roots reggae, not the often unrecognizable spinoffs that pass for it today. At times, [Harris' music] is virtually indistinguishable from the righteous, spiritually motivated, Rasta-centered reggae that first emerged from Jamaica in the early '70s..."
